I had a request for some birthday cards from a friend at work. If you follow my blog regularly you know that I love request because it challenges me to get out of my comfort zone. These are definitely different that my usual cards which is a good thing. 🙂
The request was for 2 cards for a friend’s nephew who lives in Colorado. The importance of Colorado is that they will be mailed. This can be important when making cards because I don’t want to have too much bulk when they will be going through the mail.
Her nephew likes golf, bears and bourbon. As you might have guessed from the post title – this is going to be the bear card.
Big Bear Hugs Card Recipe
The first thing I did was find a bear image using my Cricut Subscription. I actually chose 2 bears. This one I thought was so cute and had to have it. The other bear was a teddy bear from the teddy bear cartridge that has the different outfits which I own. There is a teddy bear with a golf club. He is cut out – I just need to put him on a card. I chose this bear because my friend’s nephew is a young adult and I thought the teddy bear might look too juvenile for a guy.
Big Bear Hugs Close Up
The background was sitting on my craft desk. A fellow instructor at Craft Inn had done a background using the Nuvo Watercolor Markers and I was playing around copying what Lissa had done. I knew I wanted birch trees in the background but couldn’t find my metal birch tree die. I know I have one. At least I thought I had one. Back to my Cricut Design Space – no birch trees like I wanted. On to Etsy where I found a really cute set of SVG’s with different birch trees. Have I said I LOVE my Cricut Explore? The splatter in the night sky is a result of water mixed with Perfect Pearls and flicking a paint brush. Clever – huh. Not my idea – I stole from someone on the internet.
Big Bear Hugs Inside
The sentiment on the inside and outside are a result of cheating. Found this really cute font in Word – I hope I can find it again. Typed out the sentiment that you see on the front of the card and the inside of the card. Card stock for the inside was trimmed. I cut out the sentiment using a My Favorite Things stitched banner die for the outside.
Thanks for stopping by the blog today. Tune in next time for another paper crafting project. Have a great day and enjoy the journey and some chocolate.
Luke 9: 52 – 53 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.
