Tis the Season

I know it’s Halloween season, but I am trying to be proactive here which is very unusual for me.  Remember, I work better under pressure.  Making Christmas cards for my November classes jump started this Christmas spirit.  While I am on a roll, I figure I should keep going.  Unfortunately, it could be gone as quickly as I found it.  ‘Tis the Season’ is featuring another cute puppy from the My Favorite Things Happy Pawlidays set.  To see the other cards I’ve made using this set check out my previous posts here and here.

This cute little guy was colored using Copic Markers and then cut out using my Brother Scan n Cut 2.  Lawn Fawn 6 x 6 pattern paper from last year was used and matted with coordinating green card stock.  A Lil Inkers stitched circle die was used to cut out a window for the little guy to sit in.  Another die from a My Favorite Things Blueprints set contains provided the tag die where I stamped the sentiment.  I stamped additional lights on the tag and colored them with Tombow Markers (my Copics were upstairs and I was being lazy).  The pooch was popped up on foam tape.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Tune in tomorrow for WOYWW where I share my desk which is starting to get messier.  Have a great day and enjoy the journey and some chocolate.

Halloween Hello

You’re going to say – thank goodness she is finally doing something related to Halloween.  When I saw this little witch from the My Favorite Things set – Witch Way is the Candy, I knew I must have her.  As is normal, I get the images colored and then stone cold mental blockage.  It’s a real term.  Then Pinterest stepped in and the background was born.  Here is a Halloween Hello.

Using Black Soot, Wilted Violet and Salty Ocean, I sponged the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink on to Neenah Solar White Card Stock.  The splotches were a result of flicking water on the sponged ink.  Since she couldn’t stand on air, I cut out the stitched landscape pieces using a die set from My Favorite Things.  This set has become a staple in my inventory.  Additionally then sentiment from the Witch Way is the Candy set was stamped in Versamark Ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder from Nuvo.  As is my current ritual, my Brother Scan N Cut 2 was used to cut out the images I colored using Copic Markers.  For matting the card, I used black card stock.  Both the little witch and the frog were popped up on foam tape to give the card dimension.

Yappy Christmas

Are there Christmas cards in your head yet?  I keep singing It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year….  Crazy?  Of course.  But that is what happens when I start making Christmas cards.  And Hallmark Channel is on the countdown to Christmas, too.  Yappy Christmas uses the Happy Pawlidays Stamp set.  It is not the only Christmas stamp set I own, but you wouldn’t know that based on the cards I’ve been making for the past week.

Veletta will be so proud.  Not only is there something on the inside – there is more pattern card stock on the inside in addition to the sentiment.  I’ve been coloring these little dogs from the Happy Pawlidays stamp set from My Favorite Things and have created 4 different cards using these images.  Today’s card uses the 6 x 6 paper pad A Perfect Christmas from Echo Park along with some solid color card stock.  The sentiments included with this stamp set are adorable.

Furry and Bright

I know it is only October, but it is time to start thinking about card classes for November and that means Christmas.  I will have a couple Halloween cards, too.  But my Christmas cards for my classes are due this week and that means you get to see Christmas cards.  Today is May Your Days Be Furry and Bright.

WOYWW 436 – Starting to Get Messy

It is Wednesday and that means I need to take a picture of my desk and share it on Julia’s Blog – The Stamping Ground for WOYWW 436.  Last week my desk was perfectly clean.  This week it is starting to get messy again.

I have done a really good job at cleaning up after each project since cleaning my whole area thoroughly last weekend.  But I do have a couple projects I am working on that I haven’t completed so there are still some items sitting out.  This actually works in my favor for WOYWW because otherwise my desk would be pretty boring.

I have a gathering to attend to wish my boss well in her new position in a new city tonight.   I will be visiting desks later.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today and tune in next time for another paper crafting project.  Have a great day and enjoy the journey and some chocolate.

SMILE It’s Your Birthday

I know right!  Still using that SMILE stamp and die set.  Yesterday was a You Make My Heart Smile card and today it is a SMILE It’s Your Birthday card and it is sparkly.  All of these cards feature the My Favorite Things Smile Stamp and Die set.

The painful part of this card is putting the sequins on 2 sided tape to create the faux shaker card.  At first I thought the letters in the SMILE cut out would have to be lined up, but then I realized the letters in the die are attached.  So 2 pieces of white card stock cut a 5 1/2 x 4.  Two sided tape on the bottom piece of card stock where the SMILE cut out will be.  Doubled Up foam tape to stack the top layer with the SMILE cut out on top of the sequins layer.  More white card stock with a sentiment – It’s Your Birthday – stamped in orange ink from Hero Arts.  Stitched tag die from My Favorite Things to cut out the sentiment.  Three Doodlebug sequins strategically placed and the card is complete.

You Make My Heart Smile

Yep – I am still using that Smile Stamp and Die Set from My Favorite Things.  I can’t help it – it is such a great set and so versatile.  Todays You Make My Heart Smile is a pretty simple card, but sometimes the beauty is in the simplicity.  If you want to see yesterday’s card using foil, check out Something to Make You Smile.

Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks are one of my favorites right now.  I don’t know about you, but I sometimes struggle with card design.  Coloring and die cutting is loads of fun and produces lots of images for cards, but then when I go to put those images on cards – I struggle.  What do I put on the background?  Should it be busy or CAS (Clean and Simple)?  With Tim Holtz Oxide Inks you can make the most beautiful backgrounds so easily.  And these are great for the images you color or die cut.  Yesterday’s card used Orange, Yellow and Brown.  Today’s card using the Spiced Marmalade and Fossilized Amber, but instead of the Walnut Stain I went with Cracked Pistachio.  Same technique, but the green brightened the background.

Now initially I was going to use a SMILE that I’d cut out in white and piece it back in like a puzzle.  But then I thought – oh – orange!  Pulled out some orange card stock from my stash and the rest is history.  Doodlebug glittered enamel dots had to be used.  It wasn’t an option.

Something to Make You Smile

I have been playing with the My Favorite Things SMILE Stamp and Die sets.  This set is a classic and I can see me using it for years and years.  There was another card earlier last week I posed using the SMILE stamp set along with some Tim Holtz Oxide inks.  Today I used the SMILE stamp set and some foil to create Something to Make You Smile.

Something to Make You Smile Card Recipe

It is fall and so I wanted to use fall colors on this SMILE card.  Starting with Tim Holtz Oxide Inks in Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber and Walnut Stain, I just swiped the ink pad across the paper long ways.  Water was added using a bigger brush and then I heat set it.  Oracal Oramask material was used with the SMILE die to make a stencil.  The stencil has a sticky backing so I place it over the water colored oxide inks.

Using Decofoil transfer gel and a palette knife, I rubbed the gel over the stencil putting the excess back in the tub.  I tried heat setting the gel – not a good idea.  I ended up letting it dry on its own.  Once it was clear I put Anna Griffin gold foil over the dried gel, put the card in a plastic folder and sent it through my Minc.  The hole in the L is missing because of my impatience with the drying time, but I still like the way it turned out.  After peeling the foil I stamped the ‘Something to Make You’ with Versamark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder from Nuvo.  The card front was matted on brown card stock and sequins from Doodlebug were added to top off the card.

My favorite season of the year is winter.  I know people think I am crazy, but it is my favorite season regardless.  One of the reasons it is my favorite is because I love cold weather and snow and sweaters and turtlenecks.

In honor of that love, I created a card with snow in the window.  The window die is one I have had for a while now and is the perfect size – not too big and not too small.  Using Cricut Design Space, I brought in the Christmas Animals images from Dollar Graphics Depot.  Using the print and cut feature in Cricut Design space and my Cricut Explore Air 2, I printed the images and then cut them out.  Acetate, snow confetti and fun foam were used to pop up the window and create the shaker card.  The fireplace scene is inside the window and the animals are having fun outside the window.  The bear is on the inside of the card.

Take some time and enter the challenge.  And you can even send your card in to make a child smile.

Cuddly Squirrel Card Recipe

I started with the Cuddly Squirrel image from Dr. Digis and brought the image into Cricut Design Space to print and cut.  Watercolor was my medium of choice for this card so I printed the squirrel image on watercolor paper using my Kodak Verite printer.  Speaking of that printer, Tuesday was Craft Day on HSN.  Did you watch it?  I got a Cricut Maker and the Cricut Easy Press – woo hoo.  I LOVE Flex Pay.  I will share my Maker projects – I can’t wait!  But I digress.  I cut out the fall color paper using a couple MFT Blueprint dies and popped the window up using fun foam.  Acetate was in between the fun foam and the fall paper.  Fall leaf confetti was placed under the acetate and glued to some Lawn Fawn watercolor card stock in orange.  Cuddly squirrel was placed on top of the acetate and you can see the leaves in the window behind the squirrel.  There really wasn’t room for a sentiment so I will put it on the inside of the card when I need it.
